What is the effect of Shakespeare holding off introducing Romeo until late in the scene?

The effect that the late introduction of Romeo has is that he has been built up by Shakespeare in the early parts of the scene as being miserable and not a confident man. Once Romeo is finally introduced he is presented with a sense of confidence and arrogance. This is to give the sense that Romeo may be misunderstood by others.
