Explanation:

The situational irony occurs when there is an incongruity between what is expected an what really happens. In "The Gift of the Magi" the situational irony is the fact that Jim and Della sell their most prized possessions in order to buy the other a special gift, however, the gift each buys is useless without the prized possession each one sold.
