To find the original price, think about what they did to get that discount price. To get that discount price they had to multiply the original price, we will call this x, by .75 to find out what 25% off of it was which turned out to be $40. This can be shown as the equation...

x(.75) = 40

So to find what x, the original price, equals we have to divide each side by .75

x = 40/.75

x = 53.33333

We can round this to say that the original price was $53

ANSWER:

$53
