35.98 - 18.25 = 17.73

So that would mean you subtract 18.25 from 35.98 to find out how much is the shirt costs, since the book is 18.25, and the leftover can only be how much the shirt costs.

35.98 - 18.25 = 17.73

She spent $17.73 on that shirt.
