When a Movie Director consults with their cinematographer it is primarily to discuss how the camera angels and Lightning of a set or a location might have an impact on the aesthetics of the scene in the movie.

Creating the right atmosphere, light, shadows, colors can all have a powerful impact on the scene and cinematographer works with the director to ensure the right 'mood' can come across in the final cut.
